Role Summary:
The FTTB NOC Engineer oversees the management, optimization, and monitoring of the live production network and customer services. They ensure network uptime, handle configurations, troubleshoot issues, and manage changes in the production environment across physical and optical network layers as well as OSS/BSS systems. The role focuses on maintaining smooth network operations and continuously improving network performance and customer experience.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in and establish governance to effectively manage the live network.
- Ensure adherence to company standards and specifications, including MEF guidelines.
- Manage and respond on the BSS/OSS environments to report on network configuration, upgrades, monitoring, surveillance, and performance.
- Schedule and coordinate customer service upgrades.
- Implement and maintain an environment that ensures optimal customer order execution.
- Establish processes to achieve optimal customer service management.
- Manage customer Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to ensure commitments are met efficiently.
- Develop and maintain a responsive environment for corrective actions during network outages or breakoffs.
- Troubleshoot network problems and resolve outages promptly.
- Respond promptly to customer queries and enquiries, including managing TAC1 tickets and escalating issues to operations when necessary.
- Conduct fault investigations and oversee third-party infrastructure contracting and management.
- Secure network systems by enforcing security policies.
- Monitor and control access to network systems to prevent unauthorized use.
Qualifications Required:
- Matric / Grade 12
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, IT or related.
Work Experience:
- Four years of experience working in medium to large organizations.
- At least six years of hands-on experience in a live networking role.
- Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., MEF, IEEE, ITU) and knowledge of routing and switching technologies.
- Advanced knowledge of networking equipment from vendors like ADVA, CIENA, JUNIPER, and others.
- Strong understanding of network protocols and ISP operations, including MAC address management and layer 3 routing.
